Nominations are to be made by two Nominators who should be accomplished, highly respected senior soil scientists, ideally from two different countries.\u00a0 The Nominators should also supply joint or individual supporting statements in their covering letter(s).<\/p>\n

The Nominators together with the Nominee must provide the information in the attached file (President Election Full Info 2024), including an important ‘Statement of Intent’<\/strong> plus a full CV.\u00a0 All information submitted by the Nominee must also be provided to the Nominators to ensure that they can perform their task effectively.<\/p>\n

1924 Proceedings of the Fourth International Conference of Pedology<\/strong><\/p>\n

The conference proceedings were published by the International Institute of Agriculture (IIA) in Rome and were intended to serve as a milestone in the advancement of soil science, producing three volumes and one annex for a total of around 2,000 pages. Besides the report of the general secretary, the Proceedings are organized into three sections:<\/p>\n

  2. ii) Illustrative notes regarding the soil excursions<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    iii) Conferences, notes, and communications to be included in the Proceedings<\/p>\n

    These proceedings documented the presentations, discussions, and scientific contributions shared during the conference. Over time, these proceedings have become a significant reference point, providing a comprehensive account of the progress made in soil science up to 1924.<\/p>\n

    SUITMA upgrades to Commission<\/strong><\/p>\n

    In the late summer of 2023, the Working Group (WK) SUITMA (soils of urban, industrial, traffic, mining and military areas), established in 1998 during the 16th WCSS held in Montpellier, thanks to profs. W. Burghardt and J. L. Morel, have applied to become a Commission. This WK has a long and successful history having organized 12 conferences in 11 different countries, 7 symposia during different WCSS, and published a book in 2017, \u201cSoils within cities \u2013\u00a0Global approaches to their sustainable management\u201d; and several special issues of Journal of Soils and Sediments. The application was successfully approved by the Executive Committee and by the Council as well.<\/p>\n

In the publication forewords, Prof. Costantini, IUSS Presidents, underlines the importance of this book as it “represents a milestone in the history of the IUSS, instilling confidence in a lasting and prosperous future for the IUSS and its members”<\/p>\n

    Celebrating the International Union of Soil Sciences Centenary, as a gift for the children of the world the book \u201cSoil is a Source of Life, Water and Food\u201d<\/strong> was launched during the IUSS Centennial Congress.<\/p>\n

    The book containing 30 Crop Cards (all in English, Spanish, German, French and Portuguese), and 11 stories for children (all in English, Spanish, German, and some also in French and Portuguese), was edited by the IUSS Past President Laura Bertha Reyes-S\u00e1nchez and Dr. Rainer Horn.<\/p>\n

    The book is available on the IUSS website in PDF format with an Open Access license.<\/p>\n

    The IUSS invites all our members to download it and share it with the children and teachers in their family and professional environments.<\/p>\n
